By choosing this product, you are contributing to Finnish carbon sequestration. Wood Forest Finland has planted trees on land previously used for peat production that would not naturally be afforested. We manage planted trees according to sustainable forest management principles and commit to keeping trees as carbon sinks for at least 100 years. Then, as carbon sequestration slows down, we will ensure long-term carbon storage, for example by converting trees into biochar or building materials.

You will receive a certificate for your domestic environmental deed, which includes the name of the client, the number of trees and the coordinates of their location. You can also visit a carbon sink and take care of your own forest plot.

Planting and managing trees as carbon sinks helps offset the carbon dioxide emissions we humans produce through living, eating and moving. On average, one tree growing on peatland sequesters 600 kg of carbon dioxide over its lifetime.

The land and its restoration, planting and carbon sequestration are 100% Finnish work. Damage caused by any unforeseen forest damage, such as fire, insect or storm damage, is compensated by planting new seedlings to replace the damaged trees. The forest is also insured.

We humans produce carbon dioxide emissions through our housing, diet and mobility. Wood Forest Finland helps you offset your carbon footprint by planting trees as carbon sinks. You can do this, for example with Sitra’s lifestyle test. The results will show you how you can reduce your personal carbon footprint through everyday choices. Set yourself targets to reduce emissions.

2. Then, calculate the annual cost of compensation using the calculator below.

Enter your carbon footprint in kilograms into the calculator, without any punctuation. You will then see the number of trees to be planted and the price of compensation.

3. Add the amount to the order form and pay for the product online.

After the purchase, we will send you an electronic certificate as proof of your carbon footprint offset within an average of 3 business day.

Select the annual kilometers you drive and the size class of your car from the menu, you will get the finished product to add to the shopping cart. You can also compensate for a single road trip or summer holiday car trip with a smaller 1,000 km emission credit.

The emissions from driving are compensated by planting trees in the Finnish carbon sink. One tree growing on peatland will absorb an average of 600 kg of carbon dioxide during in hundred years. The product includes soil restoration, tree planting and forest maintenance. Damages caused by possible unforeseen forest destruction, such as fire, insect damage or storm damage, are compensated by planting new saplings in place of the damaged trees. Forest is also insured.

As a default value, the estimate of the amount of emissions is based on Statistics Finland’s and Trafi’s data on car emissions. You can also add your car’s registration number to the order form, which is printed on the certificate we deliver. The certificate contains the name of the subscriber, the number of trees to be planted and coordinate information about the location of the trees.

The certificate of carbon footprint offset will be delivered within 1-3 business days.

Emission averages

In new plug-in hybrid cars, carbon dioxide emissions are around 40 – 50 g/km. In cars running on methane, carbon dioxide emissions are around 100 g/km. In gasoline and diesel cars, emissions vary between 80 and 200 g/km. The average emissions in 2020 for gasoline and diesel-powered cars was around 155 g/km.
